Percentage discount calculator

Final price and saving from a percentage off.

Fill in the fields above and the result appears here — nothing is sent anywhere.

How it works

Saving = original price × discount % · Final price = original price − saving

The simplest tool here, and the one with the most expensive mistake behind it: discounts do not stack additively. Two successive 20% reductions are not 40% off — they are 36%, because the second applies to the already-reduced price. If you are chaining promotions, run this calculator twice rather than adding the percentages.

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server, stored or logged.

Frequently asked questions

How do I apply two discounts?
One after the other. Run the calculator, take the final price, and run it again with the second percentage. 20% then 20% leaves 64% of the original, not 60%.
How do I work backwards from a sale price?
Divide the sale price by one minus the discount. A 199.20 price after 20% off implies an original of 199.20 ÷ 0.8 = 249.
What margin can I afford to discount?
Check your gross margin first. A 20% discount on a 30% margin removes two thirds of the profit on every unit, which usually needs a large volume increase to be worth it.
